Japanese Bedroom Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Max_Bellamy]Max Bellamy

Japanese culture has always been a source of great curiosity and awe due to the serenity it evokes as a result of its simplicity and minimalism. Due to the stressfulness at the office, more and more homeowners have chosen to emulate the tranquility of Japanese bedroom design. Being in a Japanese inspired bedroom provides quietude and calmness, away from the bustle of the modern world.

In designing a Japanese-themed bedroom, one has to consider the salient aspects vital in Japanese design. Japanese bedrooms are marked by simplicity and minimalism for a pared-down look. Careful thought is put into Japanese bedroom designs. Each piece is carefully considered, not only for aestheticism, but, more importantly, for function. Moreover, furniture placing and type symbolize the Zen philosophy that the Japanese believe in.

Use of natural materials and natural light also defines Japanese style. Natural materials such as stones and wood are used for a low-key look that is equally appealing to the senses. Since natural light would be the main source of illumination, lighting fixtures are either concealed or recessed or are altogether minimized. The use of muted colors, such as greens and grays, are also helpful in minimizing visual "noise" and business, a vital aspect of achieving serenity and tranquility.

Furniture is also low and near the ground, not only to create the illusion of a bigger space but also to signify stability and comfort. Much emphasis is given to horizontal, rather than vertical, lines. This reminds us of our relation to the earth. Lack of ornamentation in wooden furniture is also a factor that sets Japanese bedroom design apart from all the rest. Japanese wood artisans rely on clean and simple lines to highlight their masterpieces. The same would hold true in the minimal use of accessories and décor in Japanese bedrooms in order to veer away from clutter and to focus on the inner self. Adobe Flash Reaches Next Generation of Web Development

I figured the best way to start off this article was by finding a good explanation of just what Flash is, where it came from, and how it developed before describe where it stands in the design and programming world today.

"Flash is an integrated development environment (IDE) that refers to the Flash Player, a virtual machine used to run or parse the Flash files, and the multimedia authoring program used to create the image, video, etc. Flash files are traditionally called "Flash movies" or "Flash games,” having .swf as a file extension and may be an object of a web page, a standalone Flash Player, or a self-executing Flash movie.

A Flash Player includes the ActionScript Virtual Machine (AVM), a virtual machine for scripting interactivity at run-time, support for video, audio, and bitmap graphics. The latest version is Flash Player 8 the main quality of this version are the two video codecs: On2 Technologies VP6 and Sorenson Spark, and run-time support for JPEG, Progressive JPEG, PNG, and GIF.

Initially focused primarily on creating animation, earlier versions of Flash offered a small amount of interactivity features and thus had very limited scripting capability. However, recent versions include vector and raster graphics, bi-directional streaming of audio and video and ActionScript, a scripting language that can be used to create almost all of the interactivity (buttons, text entry fields, pick lists) seen in many Flash applications. Thanks to the recent additions to Flash that it has become a widely popular method for adding an element of interactivity to web pages, software products, or displays. The latest version of Flash also allows development of rich Internet applications (RIA).

Today, Flash libraries are being used with the XML capabilities of browsers to render rich content on the web. Today, Flash is considered as a viable addition to the capabilities of a browser for its comprehensive support for vector graphics than browsers and since it provides a scripting language geared towards interactive animations. However, Flash libraries are yet to reach its potential as it is still in a nascent stage. However, once functional, it is bound to be another feather in Adobe’s cap."

What this article fails to mention are the extreme strides made by actionscript in today's world. With the advent of actionscript 3.0; the developers of Flash (once owned by Macromedia along with its brother Dreamweaver) have turned the IDE into a programming based software system. A significantly less amount of attention is given to flash's animation and drawing capabilities and the program is now geared towards creative programmers. This development came about when more and more people wanted to use flash as a scripting language for video and sound integration for interactive media projects. Actionscript 3.0 also handles databases considerably better than actionscript 2.0 and it makes it Flash CS3 anyone's choice for flash web development and applications.

3 Easy Website Building Tips

Another blog that I found with interesting information about web design

"1. Your Layout - be sure you know what your website is going to look like, this is very important. Believe me people can tell and spot a poorly put together website. Check other websites within your niche and see how they are layed out, do not copy them but you can use them as your model.

2. Tools - this is so important, if you are using the wrong type of tools you will be wasting a lot of time and possibly money. Most of all the tools you need to get started are free and you can find them online. Research what you will need before you start this can save you a lot of time.

3. Understanding - as you've heard I'm sure that knowledge is everything, it is no different when building a website, get a basic understanding of HTML and how websites work. This isn't hard to do and won't take you weeks either, there are many resources out there that will help you grasp this."

How to Establish a 100% Successful Relationship With Your Graphic Designer

Came across this article and thought to post it:

"A good, organized relationship with your graphic designer is crucial to the whole graphic design process, even in the age of computer generated graphics.

The purpose of the graphic designer has always been to use words and pictures to convey information. The graphic designer is an artist, but his or her artistry is directed toward a specific purpose. In the world of fine arts, the artist may create something that serves no purpose. Art can exist just for the sake of art or for the sake of beauty. Graphic design implies purpose, however, and the graphic artist has the responsibility to use his talent to accomplish that purpose.

The graphic designer today is usually going to be working for a client. This is true even if the designer is his own client. The point is that someone has an objective that they want to be accomplished and the graphic designer needs to direct his talent to achieving the object. In some ways, this limits the graphic designer, but it is necessary to satisfy the objective of graphic design which is to convey certain information.

The area of web design, which is the fastest growing area of graphic design, offers a good example. The graphic designer must understand the purpose of the web site and the intentions and expectations of the site’s owner. The designer might realize that he would create an entirely different design if it were his own site, but if the site owner has totally different expectations; it is those that must be met.

This does not create that much of a problem in most cases. It is the imagination and talent of the graphic designer that is his valuable commodity and most clients realize this truth. In most cases, the designer is free to utilize that imagination to its fullest to create a design that will best accomplish the purpose. Administrative, educational, and advertising graphic design must be done to a bit more rigid set of criteria, but entertainment graphic design still offers unlimited potential for experimentation.

Art is one of those special things that mark us as human beings and art can not only stir us and make us more aware of beauty, but can also open our minds to the reception of information. It can help us learn and understand. The graphic designer is an artist and in some ways his role is to make the world function better and bring more beauty to it at the same time."

Does 75% of All Graphic Design in New York Really Looks the Same?

Mankind by default tend to group together no matter what the situation. At a certain point, race, class, gender, religion, or any superficial social divide seems to crumble when there are thousands, if not millions of people in the same place at the same time. What tends to happen is that people tend to group together in schools of thought (much like schools of fish) with little reasoning in mind. If there is anything that history has taught us, it’s that everyone doing the same thing is a bad thing; it runs the risk of stagnation. Design and The Arts are very much at risk of the same stagnation; graphic design in particular. With Photoshop and other CAD (computer aided drafting) resources becoming widely available, the field of graphic design, web design, and print design are all in danger of becoming a hobby of the average and mediocre. Digital photography coupled with social media websites seemed to ‘kill’ creative photography as a real art form. Graphic Design is no different, and it’s much easier to see the real effects of this thesis in a place like New York.

New York City, specifically Manhattan and Brooklyn, are home to millions of people that are constantly bumping into each other either on purpose or due to mass transportation. These people whether they like it or not are forced to interact with one another and have some form of social exchange. These interactions and exchanges, though small, create a web of networks which easily turns the populous of New York City into a homogenous mob of thought and action. Among these millions of people are thousands of artists and designers all communicating with one another and creating new ideas. This is a good thing; what turns this into a nightmare is that these artists, designers, and creative institutions are all looking to each other for ideas and not attempting to find outside sources of inspiration. Everyone is reinventing the same wheel which leaves little room for creative evolution. Graphic design is one of the many things that suffer from this; with hundreds of graphic design students graduating from various art colleges in New York City, it’s easy to see that they are looking to these home based design studios for inspirations and jobs. A rough estimate polled in the field says that 75% of all graphic design in New York City looks the same not because we’re seeing the same advertisements again and again, but because designers and artists are following the same styles, principles, and guidelines set up within the community instead of exploring new venues of creativity. Looking away from the majority, we can focus on the 25% of graphic design in New York that breaks the conventional rules and seeks out new ways of creativity and advertising. The easiest way to find the small percentage is by searching through creative design blogs which tend to offer honest reviews about design and art.
